Sun Belt Umpires Camp. This is being held in Charlotte, NC. Steve Spano runs the camp, and the facilities are very good. If the weather permits, campers get to use the Knight's Castle stadium, a triple-A ballpark. The lead instructors are Jerry Layne of Major League Baseball and Vic Voltaggio, retired American League umpire. You can contact Steve to (704) 543-7308 for more info.

Cape Fear Classic Umpire Clinic. Also in North Carolina. Webb Turner runs this clinic, which is staffed by Major League, Minor League and NCAA umpires. Those who have attended this camp have reported that it accomplishes the task of making you a better ump. You can get more info, such as price, directions and who will be teaching by surfing to: www.capefearclassic.com

North East Umpires Clinic, run by Matt Hollowell, in Flemington, NJ. The benefit to this clinic is that they have a DOME in which to work. Takes the weather concerns out of the picture. Matt mentions that students will be rotated into live game situations, played by local high school teams. They seem to be headed in the right direction. You can contact Matt at (908) 534-5422, or at
